Color: Medium purple

Nose:  Cedar, minerals, and earth

Taste:  Wow with minerals, earth, cedar and mushrooms

Finish:  Long and concentrated

Evaluation:  Showing really well and an amazing wine 94 points

1996 Amiot Clos du la Roche

Color:  Medium purple

Nose:  Rubbing alcohol

Taste:  Cherry, smoke and a little sour fruit

Finish:  Medium with fruit intermixing

Evaluation:  A solid wine with some interesting notes. 86 points

Overall the hill. No fruit, some floral, a funk that is not positive. (80 pts.)

1999 Francois Chauvenet Savigny-les-Beaune $$$

Color:  Light and dirty

Nose:  Funk, floral

Taste:  No fruit and a bad funk

Finish:  Short

Evaluation:  Terrible wine 77 points

Color:  Medium purple

Nose:  Forest floor and walnuts

Taste:  Earth and some floral

Finish:  Medium

Evaluation:  85 points

1999 Faiveley Latricières-Chambertin

Color:  Light red

Nose:  Cherry, spice, smoke

Taste:  Floral, smoke, spices, elegant wine

Finish:  Smooth and integrated well

Evaluation:  Well made and should age another 5 years 90 points

1999 Dominique Laurent Grands-Echezeaux

Color:  Light red

Nose:  Spice, soy, mushrooms

Taste:  Complex wine with soy, Asian spice, and mushroom

Finish:  Solid medium length finish with tons going on

Evaluation:  Great wine 93 points

2000 Domaine Leroy Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts $$$$

Color:  Medium purple

Nose:  Cherries, earth, mushrooms

Taste:  Forest floor, mushrooms, earth and cherries

Finish:  Medium

Evaluation:  92 points

2000 Frédéric Magnien Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Clos Sorbes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis 1er Cru (6/13/2010)
Minneapolis Wine Club does Burgundy; 6/12/2010-6/14/2010 (Christine's House): Some bricking. Reviewed on day two. Opened up a bunch and reveals floral, cherry, clay and mild funk. On the palate damp earth, floral, cherry, figs and clay. Good acidity and a medium finish. I would recommend drinking up if you have some of this left as I don't see it improving any. (91 pts.)

2001 Domaine Dujac Morey St. Denis $$$$

Color:  Medium purple

Nose:  Cherry, floral, raspberry

Taste:  A little funk that blew off quick with cherry, floral, raspberry, strawberry

Finish:  Well balanced and great fruit flavors on this medium finish

Evaluation:  A really nice wine 92 points

2002 Mugnier Chambolle Musigny

Color:  Light red

Nose:  Floral and light fruits

Taste:  Smoke and water

Finish: short

Evaluation:  Not much going on with this wine.  78 points

2002 Domaine du Château de Chorey (Germain) Beaune 1er Cru Cuvée Tante Berthe

Color:  Medium

Nose:  Oak, fruit, earth

Taste:  Oak, fruit, and tobacco

Finish:  Medium and too much oak right now

Evaluation:  This needs to be cellared for a while 88 points

2002 Henri Jouan Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Clos Sorbes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis 1er Cru
Nose of cranberry, strawberry and raspberry. Beautiful on the palate with spices, raspberries, minerals and funk. Medium finish and just showing really well. Drink now or hold for 5 years. (93 pts.)

 

2002 Domaine Latour-Giraud Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières $$$$

Color:  Light purple

Nose:  Rich and full of fragrance with floral, vanilla, oak, cherry

Taste:  Floral, oak, mineral, vanilla

Finish:  Intense and full of flavor!

Evaluation:  Great example of Burgundy's potential without breaking the bank 93 points

2002 Nicolas Potel Clos de la Roche - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru (6/24/2010)
Bordeaux, Italy and a Burg in Minneapolis: Light color. Really opened up over the night with strawberries, cranberry, minerals, mushrooms and more. Good acidity and medium finish. Very nice wine. (93 pts.)

Spice and a funk on the nose. The palate shows dirt and spice. Medium finish. Over the hill. (80 pts.)

2003 Louis Latour Corton Chateau Corton Grancey $$$$$

Color:  Light red

Nose:  Floral, spice, oak

Taste:  Floral, spice, oak, smoke

Finish:  Medium and intense

Evaluation:  Expensive Burgundy for the quality 89 points

2003 Nicolas Potel Bonnes Mares Grand Cru Burgundy $$$$$

Color:  Yellow

Nose:  Mineral and cherry

Taste:  Light wood with mineral, cherry, earth

Finish:  Medium with good expression of fruit

Evaluation:  A nice wine 91 points

2003 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Chambolle-Musigny

Color:  Medium purple

Nose:  Cherry, strawberries, and mineral

Taste:  Fruit forward style

Finish:  Medium and concentrated

Evaluation:  If you like fruit you will enjoy this wine 90 points

2004 Jean-Luc Dubois Chorey-les-Beaune Clos Margot $$$

Color:  Light red

Nose:  Spice, currants, floral

Taste:  Floral, spice, and smooth tannins

Finish:  Medium and well balanced.  Nothing overpowering.

Evaluation:  A nice overall wine that would pair well with game.  88 points

2004 Ballot-Millot & Fils Bourgogne - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne (3/5/2010)
Spice and earth dominate the nose and palate. Still tannic and drinkable overall. Good started Burg. (86 pts.)

2004 Fernaud & Laurent Pillot Pommard 1er Cru Clos de Verger- France, Bugundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru

A nice wine with mushroom, earth, forest floor and spices.  Concentration is solid on the palate and it possesses a  medium finish.  A nice pairing with a mushroom dish.  90 points

2004 Fernaud & Laurent Pillot Pommard 1er Cru Grand Clos des Epenots- France, Bugundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru

Not as fruit forward as the 05 with floral, strawberry, minerals and medium tannins.  Good structure overall and should age past 2012.  90 points

2004 Henri de Villamont Savigny-Les Beanue $$

Color:  Light purple

Nose:  Mushrooms, mineral, strawberries

Taste:  Bitter with mineral, earth, spice

Finish:  Short with lack of substance

Evaluation:  For $20 you can do much better buying Oregon 84 points

2005 Bouchard Aine & Fils Cuvee Signature Fixin $$$

Color:  Light purple

Nose:  Asian spices, rose petals, mineral

Taste:  Asian spices, cranberries, mineral, shoe leather, rose petals

Finish:  Intense burst and settles into an elegant wine

Evaluation:  About as good as Burgundy gets for under $30 90 points

2005 Hospices de Beaune Beaune 1er Cru Cuvée Rousseau Deslandes Bouchard Père et Fils (Hospices Auction Group) - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru (4/6/2010)
Haskell's Wine Sale Tasting; 4/5/2010-4/6/2010 (Bloomington): Bursting with cherry, truffles, strawberries and minerals. Palate is matching up with the nose and it is balanced across the board. Medium finish. A bit different then 2 previous bottles but solid wine. (90 pts.)

2005 Bouchard Aine & Fils Bourgogne Cuvee $

Color:  Light purple

Nose:  Strawberry, spice

Taste: Smooth wine with some nice fruit

Finish:  Medium and very little tannins

Evaluation:  Every day Pinot from Burgundy 85 points

2005 Hospices de Beaune Beaune 1er Cru Cuvée Rousseau Deslandes Bouchard Père et Fils (Hospices Auction Group) - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru (2/26/2010)
Medium purple. Nose of floral, earth, truffles, and raspberries. On the palate strawberries, floral, spice, floral and raspberries. Medium finish. Firm tannins and needs some cellar time. Really nice wine with potential to go up to 93. (91 pts.)

2005 Hospices de Beaune Beaune 1er Cru Cuvée Rousseau Deslandes Bouchard Père et Fils (Hospices Auction Group) - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru (4/6/2010)
Bursting with cherry, truffles, strawberries and minerals. Palate is matching up with the nose and it is balanced across the board. Medium finish. A bit different then 2 previous bottles but solid wine. (90 pts.)

Color:  Medium purple

Nose:  Elegant nose with floral, cranberry, strawberry

Taste:  Asian spices, floral,  cranberry, strawberries

Finish:  Medium and complex

Evaluation:  A very nice wine 94 points

Minneapolis Wine Club does Burgundy; 6/12/2010-6/14/2010 (Christine's House): Drinking really well wiht floral, vanilla, wood, spices and minerals. On the palate some mushrooms and overall a balanced wine. Good acidity and my wine of the night at a recent Burgundy Tasting. (93 pts.)

2005 Louis Jadot Gevrey-Chambertin $$$$

Color:  Light purple

Nose:  Cherry, leather, spice

Taste:  Cherry, mineral, spices

Finish:  Medium with average tannins

Evaluation:  Not a great 05 for the money 86 points

2005 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Les Boucherottes $$$$

Color:  Light red

Nose:  Spice, floral, cherry

Taste:  Light spice, good acidity, floral and smooth tannins

Finish:  Medium and elegant wine

Evaluation:  A nice Premier Cru wine for under $50 92 points

2005 Louis Jadot Nuit St. Georges $$$$

Color:  Light purple

Nose:  Spice, strawberry, very light

Taste:  Light wine with spice, floral, mushroom and strawberry

Finish:  Short to medium and balanced

Evaluation:  Not a high alcohol fruit bomb and very nice 91 points

2005 Louis Jadot Vosne-Romanée $$$$$

Color:  Light red

Nose:  Asian spice, floral, cherries

Taste:  Nice earth tones with cherry, soy sauce, and floral

Finish:  Medium with good acidity

Evaluation:  Nice wine from a great Village 92 points

2005 Jean-Philippe Marchand Bourgogne Cuvée Alexis - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne (3/5/2010)
Light purple. Nose of spice, cherry, and minerals. Nice overall palate and medium finish. Solid intro Burg. (87 pts.)

2005 Michel Picard Mercurey 1er Cru Clos Paradis Récolte du Domaine Voarick - France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Mercurey 1er Cru (4/6/2010)
Nose shows strawberries, minerals and cedar. The cedar is a bit much on the palate otherwise a few more points. Earth dominate wine and medium finish. (87 pts.)

2005 Fernand & Laurent Pillot Pommard 1er Cru Rugiens - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru (6/12/2010)
Minneapolis Wine Club does Burgundy; 6/12/2010-6/14/2010 (Christine's House): Light red. Decanted 2 hours. Nose vibrant with cherry, minerals, cranberry and floral. On the palate cherry, minerals, earth, spices and good acidity. Medium finish and solid wine. (91 pts.)

*Tasted 3 more times (same as the Clos de Verger) and very similar.  These are more for an American palate and very fresh wines.  Good acidity and medium finish.  Pair them with Salmon or Turkey.  88 to 92 points.

2005 Fernand & Laurent Pillot Pommard 1er Cru Clos de Verger - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru (8/6/2010)
Old World style with funk, floral, earth and raspberries on the nose. Good concentration and balanced wine. Drinking well right now. (91 pts.)

*2005 Fernaud & Laurent Pillot Pommard 1er Cru Clos de Verger- France, Bugundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru

Tasted 3 more times with consistant notes of floral, earth, raspberries and wood.  The funk quality does burn off quick and these are wines to drink now and not cellar.  88-92 range.

2005 Nicolas Potel Charmes-Chambertin $$$$$

Color:  Light red

Nose:  Fig, floral, earth

Taste: An earthy wine with some cherry, fig and floral

Finish:  Medium with good acidity

Evaluation:  Very nice wine but not cheap 92 points

 

2005 Roty Bourgogne Grand Ordinaire Pinot Noir $$

Color:  Light purple

Nose:  Rich with earth, spice, smoke

Taste:  Heavy minerals with smoke, cranberry and spice

Finish:  Medium with plenty of flavor

Evaluation:  This is real starter wine from Burgundy.  Be careful of the silly labels that advertise Pinot Noir from France  88 points

2005 Nicolas Potel Volnay Vieilles Vignes $$$

Color:  Light gold

Nose: Stones, cherries, spice

Taste:  Light bodied wine with cherries, stones, earth

Finish:  Medium but too acidic

Evaluation:  Not the best wine for the $23 I paid 84 points

2005 R. Dubois Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru (3/5/2010)
Medium purple. Nose of spice, floral, and cedar. On the palate cedar, floral and earth. Good acidity overall. (87 pts.)

2005 Henri de Villamont Chambolle-Musigny - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny (4/6/2010)
Good color. Expressive nose with scorched earth, cherry, mineral and mushrooms. The palate is also intense and balances the earth and fruit nicely. Good acidity and a medium finish. Solid effort! (91 pts.)

2006 Louis Jadot Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru (6/13/2010)
Minneapolis Wine Club does Burgundy; 6/12/2010-6/14/2010 (Christine's House): Classic Red Burg with wood, spice, floral, cranberry and some cellar funk. The funk blew off and a nice cherry element appeared on the palate. Good acidity and still firm tannins. I would hold for another 5 years and try again. (92 pts.)
